Service Description

You will learn how entrepreneurship, music and computer science are transformational pathways toward equity....all while competing for a grand prize of $5000! Students will code a song in EarSketch remixing stems from Pharrell’s song Entrepreneur that uses their “voice” (or includes a message) to promote equity. They will submit a link to their code in EarSketch and an attached reflection to decode their music. The reflection could be written and/or a visual that exists in parallel with the song. Ideally, their reflection discusses how their song expresses a message to promote equity. Their music and code should connect to their voice. Student Song Requirements: Make Beats (Music): Code one song (minimum 16 measures) Song is a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 3 minutes The song should have at least 5 unique music tracks The song must include a sound clip (stem) from Pharrell’s song “Entrepreneur” Song should be a “remix” of one of our featured songs - “Entrepreneur”, “New Normal” or “Underdog” Learn Code (Computer Science): The final code will need to run without any errors and play in the digital audio workstation. Include the EarSketch API function fitMedia to insert sound clips Use of variables to write more efficient code Include Custom/User-defined functions to structure the song (Only for Middle/High School Students) Use comments to describe code and document the message in the song Promote Equity (Social Justice): The song should reflect student voice/include a message that promotes equity Demonstrates student awareness or analysis of racial injustice Includes a call to action Includes written reflection
